CATO, THE DSFC'S LITTLE YELLOW FRIEND

SALUTE? WOO-HOOOO!!!

BURT KWOUK... We Salute You!!

Inspecter Jaques Clouseau hardly needed a foil. His bumbling ways and overwhelming incompetence served to give him many enemies and put his life in constant danger. Much of this from his own Commissioner Dreyfuss.

Clouseau did have his moments of genius, however rare. One was to have his housekeeper, Cato, attack him randomly. Any time, day or night, Cato might be found in the freezer, under the bed, in the curtains, waiting to strike. It was meant to keep Clouseau on his toes, prepared for anything. Just in case, Cato also doubled as a bodyguard. One bomb destined for Clouseau almost blew off "All of Cato's little yellow skin."

Burt Kwouk, while not having what many would call a legendary career, was certainly a part of a legendary film series, and an integral part. Peter Sellers was a comedy genius, and Kwouk held his own against him, both in comic timing and brute force.

Chinese is dangerous if not properly heated.

BURT KWOUK
Career Highlights

THE PINK PANTHER SERIES (1964-1993)

The bread and butter of Kwouk's carrer, already discussed at length. The supporting cast for these films was an important element, and Kwouk and Herbert Lom, who unlike many retained their roles throughout the series. Why? They were excellent, and as a result have most of the memorable non-Sellers scenes.

THE JAMES BOND SERIES (1964-1967)

Bond has his villains. Burt, being a Brithish Asian man, was able to cash in on that, appearing in 3 Bond films, if you count "Casino Royale." He was also in "Empire of the Sun" and several "Fu Manchu" movies. He was not above typecasting.

ROLLERBALL (1975)

In this science fiction classic about the depraved violence that professional sports can become, and the desperate grasps at fame a fading star will try, Burt played a Japanese Doctor.
