JON GRIES... We Salute You!! As the purists will tell you, this is the change of the millenium, and what person better represents the changes in our culture? He has played a man who helps build a powerful laser, then realizing its power helps disable it (Real Genius), showing our steps to the brink of nuclear destruction. In TerrorVision, he plays the one who tries to make contact and peace with an evil alien life form, as we have been trying to do for some time. This film also has parallels to internet culture, and the danger that can be downloaded in the form of entertainment, then eat you. As both a werewolf (Monster Squad) and a vampire (Fright Night II) he shows man's vicious possibility, but also a desire to reclaim our humanity. It also reflects the growing opinion that what was once dismissed by being supernatural may just have undiscovered scientific merit. He even dresses like a programmer. Jon Gries, you are a man of tomorrow, today! For further information about our 12.29.00 DSFC Weekly Salute, JON GRIES: JON GRIES at IMDB Official Website! JON GRIES Career Highlights REAL GENIUS (1985) Lazlo Hollyfield was possibly one of the most brilliant people who ever lived, or at least who attended Pacific Tech. Like most intelligent people in state universities, he went completely mad. He designed an underworld lab, reachable through Mitch Taylor's closet. He later helped cook popcorn with a space laser. Cool. MONSTER SQUAD, THE (1987) A movie more often quoted than actually remembered, it was one that a very specific 2 year margin of people apparently remembers. It's biggest claim to fame was the infamous line: "Wolfman's got nards!" That wolfman? Our own Jon Gries. PUCKER UP AND BARK LIKE A DOG (1990) This movie was a chance for Jon to take the lead. We may not have seen it, but we have heard of it. That says a lot. Well, not really, but the point is, it may have led to the Pretender, or some other work for him, so Huzzah! BACK TO THE TOP:
